Social media is everywhere these days. From Myspace in the mid 2000's to Facebook and now to on Instagram and twitter, brands and their advertisements have been everywhere. Recently, Wendy's twitter account has become one of the most entertaining things to follow on, social media, more specifically, twitter. This is because of their bizarre tweets and replies to the average twitter user that nobody would ever expect from an account made by a business
Wendy's value proposition lies in their social media presence, square hamburger patties, and their menus that reflect popular local choices with "fancier" food choices than typical competing food places.
This screenshot is one of many savage and hilarious replies the Wendy's twitter has made. |
Twitter users love seeing what Wendy's has to say because they are not afraid to call out other food places and have a sense of humor much like modern day teens. |
The biggest challenge Wendy's as a brand faces is the abundance and availability of other fast food establishments all across the world. Also, they could face possible backlash for their tweets if they are misunderstood by a group of people. However, I can imagine that they have a team of people reviewing their tweets before they are actually posted.
The only backlash Wendy's commonly faces comes after they refuse to acknowledge possible issues twitter users mention to them. User's have also complained about Wendy's pettiness and insults towards other fast food brands even though that is what may people enjoy seeing,
If I was in a position of power at Wendy's I would try to not antagonize other brands as often however I would continue to keep an entertaining presence on twitter that the fans enjoy.
Overall, I have learned how powerful social media can be for marketing as well as the pros and cos that can be a result. Reaching out to the younger generations will result in more widespread attention which ultimately results in more business. And as everybody knows, more business means more money.
